RV Cover Sizing: Why a Length Label Is Not Enough

Check the dimensions the cover actually needs

A trailer described as 27 feet long does not automatically fit every cover whose size range ends at 27 feet. Vehicle descriptions, model names and overall lengths can refer to different measurements.

In one support conversation, an owner found that a Travel Trailer cover was too tight to close at the edges. The discussion raised a key question: did the quoted vehicle length describe the cabin, or did it include the towing assembly? The customer ultimately reported returning the cover through Amazon. The email record does not confirm delivery of a larger replacement.

Measure before deciding

Use the measurement diagram for the exact cover you are considering. It should clarify the covered body, required width and height, and how fixed fittings are treated. If the diagram or your measurement leaves an ambiguity, ask before ordering.

Take a photograph showing where your tape measurement starts and ends. Include the RV type and any rear ladder, spare tire or other fixed feature that affects the cover's fit. Do not switch between body length and overall towing length during the comparison.

Length is only one part of compatibility

Class A, Class C, Travel Trailer and Fifth Wheel covers are shaped differently. Check access-panel positions too. A cover may be long enough but still place an opening in the wrong location for your door or rear access needs.

When a measurement is near a size boundary, do not stretch the cover or force the zipper closed. Ask support to check the measured dimensions against that specific variant's size chart.

Make the first fitting a careful check

Before committing to long-term storage, inspect the fit and confirm that access panels close without excessive tension. Keep the packaging and your order information while checking compatibility.
